Torgah Claims The 2019 1st October Championship For Fifth Win Of The Season.
Vincent Torgah wanted to go wire-to-wire on the African Tour for the fifth time in a single season, and he had the perfect formula Tuesday at the 1st October Championship. He didn't make any mistakes at the Portharcourt Golf Course as no one came close.
Torgah closed with a 2-under 68 for a fourteen-shot victory having grossed a score of 259 representing 21_under_Par over four rounds.
The 36-year-old Ghanian remains the first multiple winner on the African Tour this season. He is a two time Order Of Merit winner on the Tour 2017,2018 and still leading this season. Torgah has fourteen victories in total a feat no one else has achieved on the African Tour.
Zimbabwe's Visitor Mapwanya parred his last three holes for a 72 to finish alone in second @7_under_Par for the tournament.
The only drama in the final round was shown by Sunday Olapade who brilliantly finished @3_Under to move up to third place, beating home boy Gift Willy to fourth place. It was a big blow to Willy, when he carded a final round four_over par 74, having posted a 67, 67 and a 71 in the first three round closing the event @1_under Par.
Kabiru Haruna finished fifth @1_Over_Par, Chukwudi Okoro also finished @3_Over_Par. While the trio of Ghana's Emos Korblah, Solomon Ideriah and Francis Epe finished joint fifth @_4_Over_Par.
Torgah won the Portharcourt Classics in May , ending nearly five months without a victory on the Tour. Now he has five victories five months apart, and Torgah strongly believes he has a lot of unfinished business on the tour for the remainder of the 2019 season.
The African Tour has three events remaining -- all of them in Nigeria-- before the top 30 qualify for the season-ending African Tour Championship in December.
