Torgah's Third Round Sub-Seventy Score Keeps Him Ahead Of The Field

Ghana's Vincent Torgah carded a superb bogey free third-round of 63 to claim a ten shot lead at the 1st October Championship at the Porthacourt Golf Club on Monday. Torgah made seven birdies and eleven pars to maintain a 54 hole lead with 19_under par heading into the final round.

The Ghanaian professional golfer made a 'splash' on the African Tour in  May when he claimed his fourth win of the season at the 'Porthacourt Classis'. Vincent Torgah also known as "Mr Consistency" is seeking his fourteenth professional win on the African Tour if he emerges as the winner of this year's 1st October Championship.

With 19_under par, Torgah now holds the lowest 54 holes score in the Tour's history, with rounds of 63 65 and 63 respectively. He also set  a new Course record to beat at the Porthacourt Golf Club having scored a bogey free 7_under in a single round the first player to do so.

During a day of low scoring, Zimbabwe's Visitor Mapwanya now sits solo at 2nd place on the leader board with a 3_under_par in the third round to move to 9_under, but couldn't catch up on the leader who had a blitz of birdies in the third round and now ten strokes ahead of him.

Porthacourt based professional golfer Gift Willy couldn't beat the course in the third round having carded a one_over par 71 on day three and now solo third on the leader board @5_under_par.

Osun state born Sunday Olapade also carded a bogey free round of ( 67 ) 3_under to move up the leader board by a spot @2_under_par after 54 holes. and now 4th on the leader board heading to into the final round.

Kabiru Haruna of Kano Golf Club also maintained a brilliant performance on day three, scoring a level_par 70 to sit 5th on the leader board@_1_over par, beating Chukwudi Okoro alongside Francis Epe by a stroke, who are now tied for sixth place @_2_over.

Three other players who scored in the 60's include Python Golf Club professional Udom Saater (66) four_under par, Solomon Ideriah (68) two_under par and Chidi Tobias of Ikeja Golf Club @one_under (69).

The question of who will cart away this year African Tour's 'Independence Trophy' and the four thousand Order of Merit points, still lingers as the game of golf is usually unpredictable. Follow us live tomorrow @theafricantour.com for the final round coverage of the 1st October Championship.
